Guatemala Day 4!!! Tires, snakes, and even better blessings!!

I can’t believe we have already been here for 4 days! Today was a lot like yesterday, but God threw some exciting things in there! Jimmy went to the city early this morning to get the AC fixed in Shelley’s truck. Well, on his way there, the back right tire decided to blow up! God was totally looking out for Jimmy and us…if it was any other time all of us would have been in the truck. The tire blew right down the road from New Horizons and this tire shop. While the guy was rigging a temporary tire to the truck, Jimmy was able to talk to some guys from New Horizon, who he would have otherwise not have been able to talk to.

While Jimmy was waiting for the tire to get fixed, he got a call from Maria Jose’s mother! She is also a teacher and is very interested in what I would like to do someday in the Petén. She knows of a school that is in Delores that has a classroom for challenged children, which means that if there are any deaf children, they could be in that class. We are going to meet up with her sometime this week and go out to that school! She told Jimmy that we have her total support when we start a school here! I am just continually amazed at how God is opening door after door right here in the beginning!

After Jimmy’s crazy morning, he came and picked us up! We did some cooking for lunch and getting caught up on all our facebook and email! One of the girls that I met last week when I worked at camp for a day was online. Her name is Makayla! We were talking, and she told me that she had a question to ask! She wanted to know how she could go to Heaven….she said that she knew that she wasn’t saved, but that she was too scared to raise her hand at camp. Right then and there I was able to share with her over facebook how she could know for sure that she was going to Heaven when she died! She was so excited and relieved! I am still shocked at how God worked through facebook!!

Next we were on our way to pick up Quincho, so we could go to Santa Rita for Bible studies! Santa Rita is such a blessing to Jim and Shelley! It was to Brittany and I too! We started off by driving through the village with the speakers blaring that Bible study was about to start! No lie, like 10 boys came out of nowhere and jumped on the back of the truck for a ride to the Bible study! Before we got to our building, Jimmy stopped and asked a lady in the village, if she wouldn’t mind making some tortillas to go with his sopa roja for his lesson. She was totally willing to do it for free, which Jimmy could not allow her to do, because that is their food, all that they have.

Kids Bible study went great! Except for a little interruption during our game…..all of the kids were looking for their 5 panes y 2 pescados, and one just so happened to find a snake instead!! Not cool!!! Quincho thought he could try and pick it up, but it kept trying to bite him! Well, unfortunately that was a big distraction, but soon everyone was back under control! Brittany and I had so much fun doing crafts with the kids! My whole table was boys….I really tried to use my Spanish, but they just laughed at me the whole time, which I just ended up laughing at myself too! I got to see Anna, Juarjo, Michella, Claudia, Marco Tulio, and so many others again!

We had the Adult Bible study next, and over 24 adults came! Brittany and I served sopa roja to all the adults, which was a perfect way to meet some of them! Many of the girls whose nails we painted back in November during the ladies day were there! 5 of them are coming to our girl’s day! We are so excited!! For dinner we went to Flores and ate at Las Puertas! It was a really good time with Quincho, Jim, and Shelley! Tomorrow we are having a celebration in New Horizons to award all of those children who have come to Bible study and have earned points! Pray for Jimmy as he is going back to the city to get a real tire and the AC fixed!

Love you all!!
